Donttasemebro.com got registered yesterday -read the campus tasering-fallout story on Wired. I still think that it was justified, for a number of reasons. First, the guy shows up in line with cops -he probably already gave reason (on entering, or after, but before the cameras started rolling) to be kept at arms-length. Then, if you watch this video, this is not a small guy.

You can clearly see on this video (the other, way more popular one is here) how he quite easily resists being 'dragged off' as most put it, at the bottom of the stairway. One cop (coming up from by the podium at 0,34") had his taser drawn at that time already (0,55"), but put it back in his holster as they all moved towards the exit. That's like a second chance to me.

Imo -and probably the cops'- he wasn't really resisting yet and already proving difficult to be led out. It's important to realize. If you've ever taken on a guy stronger than yourself you look for those things, and you calculate that into your response (the famous 'I got one shot and then run for it').

Finally, the bullsh1t about him 'already being on the ground' or there being so many cops, so there would be no need for tasering. Let me tell you, somebody can be equally dangerous on the ground as on foot, and it doesn't matter if there's one guy or seven -in the end he hits the guy in front of him. If you don't agree, then read up on a thing called Judo, it's like 70% on the ground. And they can't all sit on him -that would break his ribcage. Or two holding him, and the others going for his legs? Would you kick someone in the face, unwantingly even?

The Wired article also brings up scary alternative stories, in case the cops wouldn't have tasers, like 'a bullet in the chest'. Bro, pleaz. He would have been clubbed down most likely, and would still have bruises today (if not worse). Fact is, tasering is clean and works, with almost no (in 95% of cases) lasting effects. So you either take a leap back and accept that 95% more arrests will carry lasting effects, or you side with the 5% in the current scenario and whine about brutality. In the end it all comes down to these liberal upper middle-class white kids just being soft and against any form of authority, and calling it being educated (implying superior to you, bro). And yeah, I put in 'white' so you'd think about his 'bro' reference, and if he would have made it if it weren't for that black cop hauling him off -Bro, we're both repressed! Just a thought, but I've seen his type before.

Finally, this is also a taser, and trust me, set waay higher than that guy took -he was still screaming, meaning he didn't lose control of his jaw and tongue muscles.
