JIM BROWN - Don't Play That !

After years of barging over husky defenders on the gridiron, ex-Cleveland Browns running back Jim Brown is attempting to tackle two serious video game heavyweights in court.

According to Bloomberg, Brown has filed suit against Sony Computer Entertainment America and Electronic Arts over using his likeness in the popular Madden football series. He seeks a court order preventing either company from continuing to use his likeness in the franchise as well as damages stemming from trademark violation.

At issue is the starting running back on Madden's "All Browns Team." The character is African-American and bears the same jersey number Brown made famous -- number 32. In the suit, Brown claims that he "never signed away any rights that would allow his likeness to be used."

He also mentions that unlike today's players, he was not given the option to negotiate terms during his NFL heyday.

"The NFL had league wide policy that players shall have no lawyers or agents when negotiating compensation," he said in the complaint. "Video games were not invented yet and no union to obtain rights from existed.''

EA and Sony have yet to comment on the matter.

MANNING COOL FAVRE COLD AS GIANTS SUPER

BRETT LOOKS OLD

CHEESE HEADS "LOOK MA NO BRAINS" !

ELI HAS RISEN TO THE LEVEL OF KERRY COLLINS, CAN HE JOIN THE GODS ?

Manning repeatedly put the Giants in position to win the NFC championship Sunday, and when Lawrence Tynes came through at last with a 47-yard field goal in overtime, New York had itself an improbable 23-20 victory over the Green Bay Packers at frostbitten Lambeau Field.

Now comes Mission Impossible: beating the undefeated New England Patriots in two weeks in a Super Bowl matchup hardly anyone saw coming.

"We haven't been given a shot, but we're here and I think we're deserving of it," Manning said. "Right now I'm excited as I can be."

Manning wasn't the only Giant who came through. Tynes had two earlier misses - a 36-yarder at the end of regulation following a bad snap, and a 43-yarder with 6:49 to go - before nailing his long winner 2:35 into OT.

He got a reprieve in overtime after Corey Webster intercepted a struggling Brett Favre - the kind of mistake Manning often has made before his recent turnaround.

"I screwed it up twice," said Tynes, who sprinted straight to the locker room after his decisive kick, leaving his frozen teammates to celebrate outside. "Thank God we got another opportunity."

Eli's arrival comes one year after older brother Peyton won a Super Bowl for the Indianapolis Colts, earning MVP honors to boot. Peyton stayed away Sunday, but father Archie was on hand for the biggest moment of his youngest son's career.

"We knew we could compete with anybody," Manning said. "It's just a matter of getting hot at the right time."

Nobody, not even league MVP Tom Brady, is hotter than Eli.

Just a month ago, Eli's moxie was being questioned as the Giants struggled to clinch a wild-card berth. He responded with the best work of his four-year career, including four touchdown passes in the season finale against the Patriots.

He and the Giants are getting another shot at New England, the first team to go 18-0. The Patriots will be after their fourth Super Bowl title in seven years on Feb. 3, as well as the league's first perfect season since Miami went 17-0 in 1972.

But don't discount New York, which led the Patriots by 12 points in the third quarter before falling 38-35 on Dec. 29.

"Heck, they could win two weeks from now," Favre said. "I wouldn't put it past them."

The Giants (13-6) had a handful of opportunities to put away the Packers (14-4) as Favre struggled with the minus-3 degrees temperatures and wind-chill of minus-24.

Along with Tynes' misses after making two first-half kicks, the Giants fumbled their first interception, allowed a long kickoff return after taking a lead, and had some critical penalties that kept Green Bay closer than it probably deserved to be.

Still, the Giants grabbed their first NFC championship in seven years, capping a monthlong surge that reversed a trend of mediocrity built around Manning's inconsistency. He has been a revelation in the playoffs, however, and his calm leadership keyed New York's turnaround.

JESSICA SIMPSON - JINXES TONY ROMO ???

Jessica Simpson was at Texas Stadium on Sunday to cheer on her new boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, as the heavily favored Cowboys played the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey with a pink number 9 (Romo’s number), Jessica watched from a luxury box with dad Joe Simpson, as Romo played the worst game of his career, losing to the Eagles 10-6.

The 27-year-old Pro Bowler threw three interceptions and fumbled the ball twice, earning him a quarterback rating of just 22.2. Romo’s average rating this year is over 100, with his previous low being when former girlfriend Carrie Underwood attended the game against the Eagles last December, which the Cowboys lost 23-7.

Some advice for Tony Romo? Leave the girlfriends at home!

"Just how bad is a rating of 22?" The short answer is, "Unbelievably bad." The long answer is this: imagine that you - yes, you reading this post - get called in to play one NFL down at QB. You line up in the shotgun, take a snap and heave the ball out of bounds. You retire from the game permanently with a QB rating of 40 - about double what Romo had yesterday.

TOM BRADY "ITS NOT OUR FAULT THE OTHER TEAMS SUCK"

In separate radio interviews yesterday, Brady and cornerback Randall Gay responded to criticisms that the Patriots are running up the score. Brady, in his weekly interview on WEEI, responded passionately when asked if the starters are staying in too long. "We're still trying to make improvements and we're trying to play extremely well," he said. "We're not trying to win 42-28, we're trying to kill teams, we're trying to blow them out if we can. You want to build momentum for each week, you don't want to be up, 42-7 or 35-7, and all of a sudden you look up and it's 35-21. We don't want to be part of that, you don't want to go into next week realizing that for the last 18 minutes of the game your team didn't play well, or didn't play up to its capabilities. You gave other teams momentum for the next time they play you, or you gave another team a reason not to be intimidated." Gay, on ESPN Radio's "Game Night" program, said, "It kind of makes me mad when you hear somebody from the other team's defense going, 'They shouldn't have done that; that's disrespect.' Do we think it's disrespect when they went and picked up their checks for letting a team score 50 points on them? That should be disrespect; that you went to your owner and said, 'All right, pay me for that game I just played.' You can't look at it like that. You have to go out there and do your best. If somebody is blowing you out, you have to play harder. You have to stop them."
