Osvaldo Budet

Meeting interesting people is one of the few perks of my library job. That's how I met Osvaldo Budet, a Maryland Institute College of Art student and filmmaker whose interest in Latin and South American cinema belies his Puerto Rican origins. Osvaldo is also a documentary film fanatic; he's already seen every documentary in our audio-visual department and seemingly every documentary ever made in the world. It was thanks to Osvaldo that I learned about a number of rare Spanish language documentaries in our collection, such as Patricio Guzman's La Batalla de Chile (Battle of Chile) trilogy and Fernando Solanas and Octavio Getino's La Hora de los Hornos (The Hour of the Furnaces) trilogy, which used Argentina as a model for describing the anti-colonialist struggles in Latin America.

Osvaldo stopped by today and told me about his Website, so I'm spreading the word. He's a good painter and has some of his film clips there, as well. Oh yeah, that's his self portrait top left (the painting is called Los héroes de Cerro Maravilla)
